Anna Sui bags appreciation post.
Loving this illustration of Karlie Kloss in the second look of the SS12 show, drawn by the talented Désirée V. over at The Fashion Skitch! She’s a really cool and stylish gal that posts lots of DIY accessories tutorials, so make sure to check her out. She also wrote a great review of the SS12 show:
… What I adore about her designs is that no matter how much her prints and styling blast you to the past, her cutting and construction is relevant to any moment in time and any woman can wear them flatteringly. …
Totally agree!
My personal favorites from the Spring 2012 collection’s third delivery!
“Third delivery? What is that?” you may ask. Let me explain! The way Anna Sui (and many other clothing companies) work is that each collection is divided by four or more deliveries that arrive at stockists monthly. For example, the current Spring 2012 collection’s first delivery (look 1 to look 14) was February 29th, its second (look 15 to look 28) on March 30th and its third (look 29 to look 44), April 30th. Despite that, certain online retailers put their stock online much later (e.g. Revolve Clothing). That’s why my 3rd delivery post is so late after the end of April!
Deliveries within a collection are distinctly segmented to represent different groups of themes — in fact, Anna herself uses a different mood board for each delivery, as I was able to witness first-hand at her studio (I will post photos of these once the Fall season begins).
So today, I will share with you my picks from the third delivery!
- Scattered Posies Print Silk Short Sleeves Dress, $385 at Revolve Clothing. When I saw this dress on Daphne Groeneveld (look 37) I wasn’t really convinced, even as a loud graphic print lover. It is only until I got to see it worn in person that I could finally see it for what it’s worth! A versatile, retro-glam dress made of pure silk printed with a vibrant floral pattern; the black background adds a sense of sophistication to its joie de vivre feel.
- Trompe l’oeil bows print on chiffon draped maxi dress, $510 at Net-à-Porter. If I had a soirée this summer that required one to be dressed at their most elegant, this is the one piece I would go for. I think this dress is ideal for its 1940s-inspired design and especially its silk chiffon fabric, which brings a very welcome lightness to this black maxi dress. It also comes in a very pretty Lipstick x Black Multi colorway rather than Kelly Green, but unfortunately there are no online stockists — so please check your local retailers. If you like the wrap-effect and the print but not the length, there is also a short version available!
- Flowerbed Stripes print on Crepe de Chine dress, 445€ at MyTheresa. Have you ever worn Crepe de Chine fabric? Wonderfully soft and light, it is simply one of the best materials you can wear. Some may disagree, but to me, CDC is the crème de la crème — and thankfully, this dress is made of a Crepe de Chine consisting of 100% fine silk. Cheerful yet chic, it’s really the perfect day dress. And to top it off, this vintage inspired print is Anna’s personal favourite from the Spring 2012 collection!
- Fairies Print on Chiffon Sleeveless Dress, $407 at Eve’s Apple. We all need sundresses, and this one is my favourite from the third delivery — if not the entire collection! On the runway, the print was modeled by Liu Wen (look 41) but being a dress kind of girl, I didn’t really take notice of it. But once I saw the dress version … not only is is made of wonderful silk chiffon, but its print is especially impressive. What appears from afar as a simple but beautifully contrasting floral print of kelly green and lipstick red turns out to be, upon closer inspection, a fairies flower garden! Check it out:

- Poppy print on chiffon Bustier Dress, 345€ at StyleBop. This is the ultimate summer party dress and like a lot of the dresses above, it is made of chiffon — crinkle chiffon! It has lovely feminine details such as the halter tie neck, pleats at the chest and a wrap-like bow at the side. With its vibrant colors, it’s really a love letter to summer.
And that’s it for my Anna Sui Spring 2012 collection’s third delivery picks! I hope you enjoyed getting acquainted a bit further with the current collection and will find a piece that’s perfect for you. Happy shopping! ♥
Anna Sui Japan’s Twitter account released hint pictures of the future Fall 2012’s first ad campaign! With props such as butterflies, a bird cage, a cuckoo clock and the scattered multi-sized letters in Anna Sui, we can expect something deliciously surrealist. Anyone willing to bet against Frida Gustavsson as the égérie of the collection? I’m not! But I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing Lindsey Wixson or Anaïs Pouliot steal a bit of the Sui spotlight…
Expect the new ad campaign to be revealed in September at the latest! <3
Anna Sui Spring 2012 Collection e-MOOK preview and mini-review! (As much as someone who can’t read Japanese can review a Japanese publications, haha)
This year, Anna Sui’s e-Mook is loaded will cool stuff. Look for yourself in the table of contents!

While I can’t read them yet I think all Anna Sui e-Mooks are worth getting. They are filled with amazing photoshoots and feature Anna’s alternate lines (Dolly Girl, Anna Sui Mini and her Japanese licensed goods) which are otherwise quite hard to reach and Spring 2012’s is no exception. What I particularly love about it is the “Anna Sui Collection Archive” with two pictures of every single collection Anna has done and an English keyword to sum them up (and Japanese text under.) On top of that, it comes with an iPad case (which I’ll use to carry my books) and a makeup pouch! Here’s a few pictures for you:

Typical Anna Sui style!

Just behind the black makeup pouch is the screen protector for the iPad. It’s useful because you can put cards, pens and whatnot in the fishnet pocket!

Yes, Anna Sui is fashion is “loud”, but it also meticulous about detail. Gotta love it!
So yes, if you get a chance to grab the Spring 2012 e-Mook, by all means jump on it! Especially considering how hard it is now to find a copy. It went out of print extremely fast and after printing 100, 000 extra copies, it’s already on its way to be out of print again. But there are a few left over at Amazon.co.jp!
P.S.: You see that makeup look on the fourth picture? That’s what I’m going to post a tutorial from with the Beach 2012 Collection Eye & Lip Color Palette!! Stay tuned ;)
Dear followers,
Thursday, my friends zeech103 and nayzemonstar (both incredible artists, go check them out!) and I went to the Hush Puppies store to take pictures of the Spring Anna Sui for Hush Puppies collection for you! Indeed, today is the last day for two of you to win a free pair of any shoes from this collection! So have a look and make sure of having your choice ready ;) As for the sizing, please be aware that the collection tend to run a bit large. For example, my shoe size varies from 8.5 to 9 but I’m an 8 in these shoes.
Good luck!
Dear followers,
a lot of you are Japanese fashion lovers that sometimes only stick to its jewel bubble, Harajuku fashion. I used to be part of you back when I was Lolita, and it’s only when I discovered Anna Sui fashion that I stepped outside of it and discovered mindblowing beauties such as Frida Gustavsson. Thanks to her being the face many times of her cosmetics collection, opening for her fashion collection and now, being the face of her latest fragrance, you all should know her!
Well, this 2:15 minutes video features lovely Frida during the making-of of Fairy Dance’s ad campaign! Really fun and cute video, I hope you enjoy as much as I did ♥
